Reclaiming the Self: Transcending the Fragmentation of the Individual Subject

Michael Bryson

What I have posted here (in 8 parts) is a work-in-progress entitled Reclaiming The Self: Transcending The Fragmentation Of The Individual Subject. In this book I suggest that we have become so fascinated with our perception of ourselves and our cultures as fragmented, as ungrounded, as decentered, that we have forgotten that our cultures, our arts, even our "selves" are our attempts (and have always been our attempts) to transcend the very emptiness and fragmentation which currently holds us in imaginative and intellectual thrall.

I would like very much to hear responses from anyone who may read all or part of this chapter. I am currently revising portions this work as part of a larger project, but that process can take ages. I can be reached for the purpose of sending any comments at this address.
